Safe, Responsive and Participant-Focused Incident Management

At Royalty Healthcare, participant safety is at the centre of everything we do. As a registered NDIS provider in Brisbane, we understand that incidents must be managed quickly, respectfully and transparently to protect participants, support families, and improve the quality of care.

Our incident management approach is designed to identify risks, respond to concerns, document what happened, and take action to prevent similar issues from happening again.

What Is Incident Management?

Incident management is the process of responding to events that may cause harm, distress, injury, risk, or disruption to an NDIS participant while receiving support.

This may include:

  • Injuries or accidents
  • Medication-related concerns
  • Behaviour-related incidents
  • Abuse, neglect, or suspected harm
  • Missing participant concerns
  • Health and safety risks
  • Property damage
  • Complaints linked to participant safety
  • Any situation requiring urgent care, review, or reporting

Registered NDIS providers are required to have an incident management system and report certain serious incidents to the NDIS Commission.

Our Approach to Incident Management

01

Immediate Safety First

When an incident occurs, our first priority is the participant’s safety and wellbeing. We take immediate action to reduce risk, provide support, and seek medical or emergency assistance where needed.

02

Clear Reporting and Documentation

When an incident occurs, our first priority is the participant’s safety and wellbeing. We take immediate action to reduce risk, provide support, and seek medical or emergency assistance where needed.

03

Communication with the Right People

Where appropriate, we communicate with participants, families, guardians, support coordinators, healthcare professionals, and relevant authorities.

04

Review and Corrective Action

We review incidents to understand the cause, identify risks, and implement improvements in staff training, care plans, supervision, or service delivery.

05

Continuous Improvement

Incident management is not just about compliance. It helps us improve our services and provide safer, more reliable support to every participant.

Reportable Incidents Under the NDIS

Some incidents must be reported to the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. These are known as reportable incidents and may include serious injury, abuse or neglect, unlawful contact, sexual misconduct, death, or unauthorised restrictive practices.

Royalty Healthcare follows NDIS reporting requirements and takes all incidents seriously, including allegations or suspected incidents.

Why Incident Management Matters

Strong incident management helps protect participants from harm and gives families confidence that concerns will be handled properly.

It also supports:

  • Participant safety and dignity
  • Faster response during emergencies
  • Better communication between support teams
  • Reduced risk of repeated incidents
  • Stronger compliance with NDIS standards
  • Better quality care outcomes

Supporting Participants Across Brisbane

Royalty Healthcare is a registered NDIS provider based in Strathpine, supporting participants across Brisbane and surrounding areas with services including SIL, STA/respite, mental health support, community participation, nursing, behaviour support, and daily living support. Our team is committed to delivering safe, respectful and person-centred care that supports every participant’s wellbeing, independence and choice.

When Should You Report a Concern?

You should report any concern if you believe a participant’s safety, health, dignity, rights, or wellbeing may be at risk.

This may include:

  • A participant has been injured
  • A support arrangement feels unsafe
  • A participant appears distressed or neglected
  • Medication or personal care has not been managed correctly
  • A participant, family member, or worker raises a safety concern
  • You believe something has gone wrong during service delivery

No concern is too small to raise. Early reporting helps prevent bigger risks.
